Hey All,
How are those New Year Resolutions going? Almost two weeks into 2012 and hopefully you are sticking to your new diets, new training routines and feeling the benefits. Stick with it; remember it needs 21 days for it to become a habit. That in can be difficult with all the other demands on us in our busy lives, so hang in there it will all be worth it.

So, in this article I thought I’d feature the importance of variation in your work outs. That’s right let’s mix things up with the benefits of cross training.

This year I’m going to train extra hard, stop eating junk food and make time for a regular massage ……Heard it all before? Me too!!

Well it’s New Year’s Eve and a time when we reflect on what we did and didn't do in 2011. Most of us would have set some goals that we didn't achieve one way or another in 2011 some of them weren't the best of ideas, but hey, you never realise that until you start them do you?

New Year’s Eve is often known for being the last night of excess, when people overindulge for the last ‘promised’ time before they purge the next day for the coming year. Hmm can this all or nothing mentality work? Well for some, yes, for others the idea of going completely cold turkey, leads to cheating – if on a very strict calories controlled diet or injuries if gone straight to exercising hard from being a couch potato.

In one of my previous articles, I wrote about the importance of goal setting and staying motivated. New Year seems the perfect time to review this. So here are my tips for achieving your goals in 2012

Welcome to the Month of Christmas! Funnily enough it’s also one of the most stressful time of the year too for many people who are struggling with day to day commitments and all the other pressures that Christmas brings, like travelling to see relatives or a sudden increase in social activity.

For anyone that trains regularly throughout the year it can be the perfect time to reflect on your work out before we get into the refreshed boundaries of New Year Resolutions!! But before we get into thinking about how we are going to dramatically improve in January and look our best for 2012, just how are we going to survive the temptation of seasonal fatty foods, alcohol and late nights??

Well, really there is no reason to treat Christmas like any other week of the year, that’s the mistake a lot of people make when they stuff themselves with seasonal goodies, drink excess amounts of alcohol and charge the credit card to max on mountains of presents that won’t get paid for till the following year, whilst slumbering on the sofa thinking I’ll park my gym kit till January!!

Rest Days, who needs them?? We all do!!

When we start something new we are filled with so much enthusiasm and enjoyment that we just keep hammering away at it , not wanting the break the cycle and don’t realize the damage we could be creating.

It’s common in people new to working out but also in people that are determinedly working towards a fat loss or muscle gain goal. Whilst the second group most likely understands the theory of rest, but choose simply to ignore it, incorrectly perceiving it as a hindrance. Both groups are suffering from the dangerous misconception that more is more.

So here’s the truth …. More is NOT more. Rest is equally as important as your training. Not taking a rest day will make your training far less effective, and also eventually, it may well prevent you from training altogether. Repeatedly failing to recover is going to utterly batter your poor central nervous system, leading to injury, illness, and chronic fatigue, amidst many other assorted delights.
