With the season changing we must be precautious and take care of our most valuable asset, our skin! “More than 1 million people in the US are diagnosed with skin cancer each year, making it the most common form of cancer in the United States. Skin cancer is largely preventable. Studies have shown that most skin cancers are linked to overexposure to sunlight (UV radiation). Therefore,
good sun protection is an important way to prevent the development of both sun-related skin damage (freckles, fine wrinkles, etc…) and sun-related skin cancers.” Currently the FDA is changing their regulations on the proper SPF. Included in these regulations they are requiring manufacturers to make sunscreen labels comprehensive for consumers. This allows consumers to get a better understanding on UVA and UVB, “Broad Spectrum” protection. It is also reported that eating foods high in Vitamin C, & Vitamin E can help lessen or prevent sunburn!
“You get the best protection if you have both of these vitamins in your system at the same time--but they are hardly ever found in the same foods. You get vitamin C from tomatoes, red and green peppers, melons, citrus fruit, and broccoli. Vitamin E, on the other hand, is found in avocados, almonds, and sunflower seeds. You can get a more complete list of foods high in C, E, or any other nutrient, at NutritionData.com.” Remember you are what you eat! Eating right always pays off!
