Style does not follow fashion trends. Style is not influenced by advertisement or design forecasts. Style is your personal expression and how you present yourself in i various social and professional situations.
Fashion trends move quickly and without any chance of stopping or slowing down. But within fashion there are constant and classic pieces and every wardrobe must have them.
If you invest your money wisely the essential items will last you a very long time. Perhaps you may need an alteration or two to keep you on the ever moving fashion wheel. Regardless of whether it is 1989 or 2009. Classic they shall remain.
Every woman must have the classic "LBD" or Little Black Dress. This item has been a staple since the 1920's and made famous by the iconic Gabrielle "CoCo" Chanel. Many styles and iterpretations of this dress are available. When shopping for your LBD, remember, above the knee is always best.
The second item is a perfectly tailored pair of slacks. Basic colors such as black or navy blue are always a sure bet. Moving onto a flattering pair of jeans, as most women will tell you they would rather spend an afternoon at the dentist than shop for jeans. Every style, even in the same size fits different. But be patient. It's essential. Having several pair of ill fitting jeans is much more expensive than one pair that truly fits your shape and body type. A boot cut jean is flattering on all body types.
A white cotton button down blouse. While it is always a good idea to have a back up to this essential. I feel if you purchase a crisp, white blouse that fits well without any gaps will be a major go to piece for you throughout the seasons.
One of my personal favorites of course is shoes!! You will need a great pair of ballet flats for running around and still maintaining your polish as a woman. It may be tempting to throw on a pair of tennis shoes, remember how you want to present yourself while out and about. You're never "just" running to the store. And your style knows it. A classic pair of black pumps, pointed toe and a 2-3" heel is best. The highest pair that allows for comfort and your ability to walk confidently. As a staple in your closet, this shoe should be the best quality you can afford.
You should also have a classic trench coat, fabric could vary and also a great place to add a splash of color to your wardrobe. A classic cardigan, cashmere is most desired and the most versatile color for a classic is gray.
The final touches are as important as all the items above. The handbag. Where to start? A classic tote or shoulder bag, again the bag should be the best you can afford. I always believe in the final touches, you will need a watch, I am a big fan of a men's wristwatch on women. and don't worry ladies I would not leave out the diamonds! Classic pieces... bracelet, ear rings will bring your wardrobe as well as your style up a notch!
Stay Stylish!
